Say goodby to 2021 and hello to 2048. Ape Tribe Game has announced the release date of its ambitious 2D stealth-action cyberpunk game, Disjunction. Disjunction has locked in a release date of January 28th, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC/Mac/Linux. A free update is available for compatibility with the Xbox One Series X and PlayStation 5.
The news comes from the Ape Tribe Games, who posted an entry to the PlayStation Blog, announcing the game’s new release date and the features of the game. Disjunction sets itself within the world of a cyberpunk dystopia but operates itself by focusing squarely on being a steal-action game, much akin to the likes of older titles, such as Volume and Republique. Disjunction focuses on the roles of three different characters, each with their own story and abilities. In the brightly-colored alleys of this new, bold future, the lives of each character will interconnect and intertwine, revealing their personal stories as the adventure unfolds.
The team behind Disjunction, Ape Tribe Games, consists of a trio of brothers, all of whom are huge fans of earlier cyberpunk games, such as Deus Ex and Snatcher. Their enthusiasm for those worlds and gameplay mechanics has been translated into Disjunction and the original world crafted within the game. This includes the gameplay mechanics, and Disjunction features a deep RPG character progression system, with many different upgrades and dialogue systems. There are various playstyles to Disjunction for players to choose from. Players can fight with guns blazing or use a methodical application of lethal and non-lethal stealth takedowns to achieve their goals.
PAX East
Disjunction was featured at PAX EAST 2020 last year, and I happened to get ahold of some time with the game. While the demo was brief, I can confirm that the game accomplishes what the brothers set out to accomplish. The demo took me on a brief mission to infiltrate a secret lab and retrieve a top-secret document. Disjunction gave me a solid degree of choice, from the dialogue options to the combat.
Stealth took getting used to, especially as I was tasked to avoid lethally eliminating enemies, but the range of combat was fantastic, allowing me to switch from stealth to straight combat at any time. The story presented was brief, but incredibly intriguing. While the cyberpunk genre is seemingly a paved path in videogames, there are always ways to go in different directions and Disjunction looks to be a great adventure to embark on, on that certainly won’t take eight years to complete.
Release Window
Disjunction launches on January 28th digitally for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox One Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
