Nintendo and Akira’s Tetris 99 has evolved substantially since it’s 2019 release. Nintendo has been slowly rolling out Maximus Cup events, which grant players exclusive themes. These themes are generally to coincide with a new 1st part release. Previous events have featured themes based on Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Paper Mario, and even Xenoblade. For the 19th Maximus Cup, Tetris 99 will be celebrating the pink puffball. Of course, I’m talking about Kirby!
Battle it out in Tetris 99 with a visit from the toughest little pink puff this side of Dream Land in a special Kirby Fighters 2 themed 19th MAXIMUS CUP!
This coming weekend’s 19th MAXIMUS CUP event allows you to earn an in-game theme based on the Kirby Fighters 2 game. Now you can channel your inner fighting spirit into the Tetris 99 game on the Nintendo Switch system as you aim to hit your opponents with a flurry of Tetrimino-clearing combinations in this action-packed MAXIMUS CUP.
The 19th MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 11 p.m. PT on Jan. 7 to 10:59 p.m. PT on Jan. 11. To participate, Nintendo Switch Online members just need to play the Tetris 99 online mode during the event period. Players will earn event points based on their placement in each match. Once players have accumulated a total of 100 event points, a new theme will unlock, featuring background art, music, and Tetrimino designs inspired by Kirby Fighters 2.
