Nintendo’s Super Mario 35th Anniversary celebration has been pretty exciting so far. The Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch brought back the long lost Game & Watch line of handhelds. The recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars brought 3 of Mario’s strongest titles to the Nintendo Switch. Continuing on with the Mario themed releases, Nintendo revealed, via a post on their official website, an all-new Mario themed Switch console, as well as a trailer revealing a closer look at Bowser’s Fury.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
“Throughout 35 years of Super Mario Bros. history, Mario has used power-ups to transform countless times, from Fire Mario to Tanooki Mario to Bee Mario and beyond. But the moment has finally arrived for Mario to assume a fearsome new feline form. He’ll need all the help he can get since Bowser has become gargantuan and lost all control! In a new trailer, Nintendo tore back the curtains to reveal additional footage from the upcoming Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury game, launching on Feb. 12 for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.”
The new trailer revealed a lot of new information on the Super Mario 3D World expansion, Bowser’s Fury. The game’s worlds are much more open, contrasting most of 3D World’s levels. It’s hard not to notice the similarities to Super Mario Odyssey’s level design. In addition to a larger, more open, world, Mario is accompanied by Bowser Jr, who is seen touting his paintbrush for the first time in a mainline game, since Super Mario Sunshine. The two cooperatively work together to stop a form of Bowser that has never before been seen. Bowser, and all of his minions, appear to have been “catified”, as they all tout cat ears and tails.
Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition
“This Nintendo Switch™ system takes inspiration from Mario, with a bold red design on the Nintendo Switch console, Joy-Con™ controllers, and the Nintendo Switch Dock. A solid blue design is featured on both the Joy-Con grip and Joy-Con wrist straps. As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a Mario Red & Blue Edition carrying case adorned with Super Mario iconography as well as a screen protector to keep your Nintendo Switch system secure.”
The next unveiling was of another special edition Nintendo Switch console. The console, in addition to the dock and Joy-Con controllers, display Mario’s trademark red color. The Joy-Con grip attachment is colored blue, to match his overalls. In addition to special colors, the bundle will also include a special edition case and a screen protector. Some may be disappointed to know that this is the same Nintendo Switch console currently on market. This bundle simply includes a special paint job and a couple of bonus items. That said, this is a really cool item for any fan of the mustached Italian!
Both Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and the Mario Red & Blue Edition console launch on February 12th. For more information on Mario 3D World, visit the game’s official website.
