In a recent report from The Holywood Reporter, The Trade announced that Jay Lycurgo will play Tim Drake in the upcoming season 3 of Titans, which will now stream HBO Max rather than DC Universe. The character-said to be recurring- is described as a streetwise kid with a genius-level intellect and great detective skills.
The character of Tim Drake debuted in August 1989 created by Marv Wolfman and Pat Broderick. He was later popularized with a younger generation via his role in the DC Animated universe’s New Adventures of Batman where he would be voiced by Matthew Valencia. Over the years the character would take on many different forms, in both the comics and the animated series. More recently, he has been featured in both the comic Young Justice as well as the later seasons of another DC Universe-turned HBO Max series of the same name.
While I would always prefer Grayson, I had no idea how interesting Tim Drake would be, especially as I got deeper into the comics. I particularly loved the character’s stint as the titular character in the Batman Beyond comic, something that I felt was poetic given his role in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Throughout all of this, I wondered whether we would ever get a live-action version of the character, a fantasy that nearly became reality when Ryan Potter auditioned for Ben Affleck’s Batman. It’s great to see that this is coming to fruition. Here’s hoping Lycurso will do the third boy wonder justice in the character’s live-action debut!
Titans Season 3 will also bring the action from San Francisco to Gotham City, which will provide some familiar Gothamites to the screen such as Savannah Welch’s Barbara Gordon and the yet-to-be-cast Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow.
