Nintendo is certainly one for surprises. In a completely surprise encounter with a Twitter user, Nintendo of America seemingly confirms the existence of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 for the Nintendo Switch. On a day that should have been celebrating the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo teased the existence of one of 2020’s most positive and successful releases.

The news comes from a reply to the man himself, Tony Hawk, who tweeted at Activision and Nintendo around 3 p.m. Pacific, 6 p.m. Eastern. The tweet reveals a quote retweet from Nintendo of America, with an eyes emoji. This is implying users to keep an eye out, neither confirming nor denying the existence of the game. Further inspection reveals the Crash Bandicoot Twitter account tweeting at Tony Hawk, and the Nintendo of America account replying to Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk. Additionally, the official Activision Twitter account replied to the entire thread, also with the same eyes emoji. There has been no confirmation or tease of a Tony Hawk game for the Nintendo Switch at this time.
The interaction comes at a very strange time. February 21st marked the 35th Anniversary of the release of The Legend of Zelda on the NES, and in a strange way, Nintendo did not even tweet the event. It goes without saying that The Legend of Zelda is a core and quintessential franchise to Nintendo and the video game world. Many regard The Legend of Zelda as having changed video games forever, and so, it is strange behavior to not tweet about the anniversary, let alone tease any further game announcements. What Nintendo intends to do regarding The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary remains a mystery.

The potential existence of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 on Nintendo Switch is incredibly exciting, as well as doable. This is considering the existence of both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon series on the system. The Tony Hawk games have had a strong history on Nintendo platforms, but the potential of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 on Nintendo Switch excites, due to how exceptional the package was received in the Fall of 2020. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 was one of the best things to happen for players in a year rife with grief and disarray. The remake combined the first two Tony Hawk games, featuring welcome updates, customization, and a licensed soundtrack regarded as one of the very best in video games and music. The end result had Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 a great nostalgia trip and an excellent remake. Having the game on-the-go would be an amazing addition to the Nintendo Switch library. While there is no confirmation, these interactions strongly suggest Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 will be available on Nintendo Switch, sooner or later.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
