In the future, there is only war. Strategy publisher and studio Black Lab Games have announced their latest game, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector. the team previously developed the critically praised space strategy game Battlestar Galactica: Deadlocked, and now sets its sights on the carnage of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The news comes via a press release from Slitherine Games, with a trailer accompanying the announcement. The trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector does not show any gameplay, but it does show an idea of the kind of perspective this particular game will take. The trailer shows off some stills of brutal carnage, blood, and destruction; between the deadly alien race, the Tyranids, and the Blood Angels Chapter of Space Marines. The trailer promises deadly encounters, engaging turn-based gameplay, and fierce, fast-paced combat. The trailer also shows marines fighting in several circumstances, as well as fighting various types of Tyranids. All this was shown to the sound of a pulsing synthwave soundtrack, evoking the likes of artist Carpenter Brut. The gameplay will be shown later, on Slitherine’s Twitch channel.
There have been dozens of games themed to Warhammer 40,000. Each with their own story to tell, and their own gameplay mechanics. Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector focuses on the Blood Angels Chapter, during the Age of the Crimson Dawn. A devastating attack has left the planet of Baal Secundus in ruins. Sargeant Carleon and his allies rally together to stop the Tyranids and preserve the honor of the Blood Angels. Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector includes many combat and tactical options, including the ability to call in air support, as well as the ability to summon iconic units, such as the Librarian Dreadnought. A unique mechanic is the Momentum System. utilizing Momentum introduces a Surge unit, which can unlock a superhuman chain of attacks, or be used to further upgrade unit abilities.
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector will launch on Steam in May 2021, with a console port to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to follow sometime in the Summer of 2021. News of a next-gen port or a port to the Nintendo Switch has not been announced at this time. It should be noted, however, that Battlestar Galactica: Deadlocked eventually made its way to the Nintendo Switch.
