The news comes from Galaktus PR, which accompanied the announcement with a new trailer. Yupitergrad was originally released on Steam in August 2020. While it may not have received as many eyes as expected, the game still achieved a Positive” rating out of 38 reviews. Yupitergrad was subsequently released on Oculus Rift, receiving a bevy of refinements and enhancements, as well as praise from players. There it received over 100 positive reviews. Following the success on Steam and Oculus Rift, Yupitergrad makes the jump to console, via PlayStation VR. This edition comes complete with refinements for the system, and a new Time Attack Mode for the most daring of Cosmonauts. Time Attack Mode adds 20 more levels, equipped with Leaderboards to see who is the fasted and most efficient Cosmonaut in the Soviet Union. Additionally, the refinements of Yupitergrad involved improving the movement, so as not to induce motion-sickness onto the player.
Yupitergrad is described as a Dieselpunk experience in space. The Soviet Union sends players to a mammoth space station orbiting Jupiter to bring great success to the Motherland. A top-secret experiment goes horribly wrong, and it is up to players to use their advanced boosting and hooking mechanics to fix the problems, save the station, and bring honor to Mother Russia. Players face a deadpan AI that will offer completely ludicrous suggestions as players dodge deadly traps and obstacles. Players use their reflexes to swing and boost their way through the station, similar to the King of the Jungle himself, Tarzan.
Yupitergrad finds itself in an interesting lull regarding PlayStation VR, following a stellar 2020, which featured the release of high-profile launches such as Ironman VR. Yupitergrad is launching at a time when not many VR games are on the horizon, at least at the moment. It’s likely that the big focus on the launch of PlayStation 5 has kept many announcements hidden for the time being, especially as Sony’s plans for VR on PlayStation 5 currently remain unknown. Still, Yupitergrad is another welcome addition to the VR space and one that hopefully continues the trend of seeing Steam and Oculus games making their way to PlayStation.
Yupitergrad is available now digitally for $14.99 USD on the PlayStation Store. Physical copies will be available beginning on March 12th.
