Since its original 2019 release, Tetris 99 has continued to be supported. Every big Nintendo Switch release seems to be getting a special themed Maximus Cup event. Back in January, Tetris 99 hosted its 19th Maximus Cup, featuring a theme based on Kirby Fighters 2. And the prior Maximus Cup featured a Super Mario All-Stars theme. For the 20th Maximus Cup, Tetris 99 is returning to the mushroom kingdom. This time around features an all-new Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury theme. This special theme will be unlockable beginning this coming Thursday.

This coming weekend’s Tetris 99 20th Maximus Cup event allows you to earn an in-game theme based on the Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury game. Demonstrate your fur-midable puzzle prowess with Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch system and claw your way to the top of the rankings in this fierce and furious Maximus Cup.
The Tetris 99 20th Maximus Cup event runs from 11 p.m. PT on March 4th to 10:59 p.m. PT on March 8th. To participate, Nintendo Switch Online members just need to play the Tetris 99 online mode during the event period. Players will earn event points based on their placement in each match. Once players have accumulated a total of 100 event points, a new theme will unlock, featuring background art, music, and Tetrimino designs inspired by Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
