The Colonists Arrives Set To Arrive On Consoles Later in 2021

Building a city is hard, but it doesn’t always have to be backbreaking, especially on another planet. Two years since its initial release, the cute, robotic city-builder, The Colonists, is setting course for a new launch on modern consoles and platforms, bringing forth new improvements and enhancements to an already enjoyable game.

The news comes from a press release from Super Indie Games, in collaboration with Auroch Digital, Code By Fire, and Mode 7. The Colonists are set to arrive on modern-day consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. After close to three years on steam, The Colonists is set to bring forth plenty of enhancements, specifically tailored to release on console. The Colonists will feature brand new controls for each console platform, no small feat for city-building games. Additionally, each console platform will review a newly reimagined UI, making The Colonists accessible to all players and player types. Finally, The Colonists will feature some new cosmetic tweaks, including new hats for the robots.

For those unfamiliar with The Colonists, it is a city-building game with a more relaxed aesthetic. As the leader of an army of robots, players build entire cities with advanced robots at the ready. These robots aren’t mindless drones, as they have personalities of their own. Each robot can be assigned a task, from fishing, exploration, harvesting resources for energy, and transporting supplies. Players research, grow, and build their city, while also branching on a campaign with peaceful and military-focused paths.

City-building games aren’t very common nowadays. Seeing another one, especially a relatively older game, is a heartwarming sight to see. As of this writing, The Colonists has over 600 reviews, accumulating an overall “Very Positive” rating. As the gaming landscape finds its footing in a time with no big releases during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Colonists finds itself in a position to make a big, strong impact amongst players. This is especially true for Nintendo Switch players, as the game’s style and interface has the potential to become a great companion for on-the-go city building. That’s something that the other versions of The Colonists cannot do.

The Colonists launches sometime in 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The game us currently available now on Steam.
