Pokemon GO: Yveltal Raid Counters & Guide

Yveltal Raid guide

At the beginning of this month, Pokemon Go trainers will have the opportunity to battle against and catch Xerneas in the 5-Star Legendary Raid. Xerneas is available to Pokemon Go players as part of the Luminous Legends X event; the Luminous Legends X event will run from May 4th to May 17th. Trainers who participate in the event can catch new Fairy and Dragon-type Pokemon and potentially catch a Shiny Galarian Ponyta. By catching Xerneas, Pokemon Go trainers can prepare for the upcoming Yveltal Raid

Starting on May 18th, the second May Pokemon Go event will be underway. The Luminous Legends Y event will grant trainers the opportunity to battle and catch the second of the Aura Trio. The Legendary Pokemon Y Pokemon Yveltal will start to appear in raids at 10 AM local time; the Yveltal raid will be available to battle against until May 31st at 8 PM local time. Trainers with international friends can be invited to Yveltal raids before their 10 AM starting time.

Yveltal is the Destruction Pokemon; it is known to absorb the life force of living things and is the second of the Aura Trio (Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde).

Best Yveltal Raid Counters

With these stats in mind, trainers should start preparing their party for a tough battle. Because of its weakness to Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type moves, trainers have a wide variety of options before going into the raid. Here are the best counters to defeat the Yveltal raid. Some of these recommendations may be substituted out due to each trainer’s available Pokemon.

Primary:

  • Zekrom – Charge Beam & Wild Charge
  • Therian Forme Thundurus – Volt Switch & Thunderbolt
  • Rampardos – Smack Down & Rock Slide
  • Terrakion – Smack Down & Rock Slide
  • Mega Manectric – Charge Beam & Wild Charge
  • Raikou (base or shadow) – Thunder Shock & Wild Charge

Alternates:

  • Rhyperior (base or shadow) – Smack Down & Rock Wrecker
  • Magnezone (base or shadow) – Spark & Wild Charge
  • Electrivie (base or shadow) – Thunder Shock & Wild Charge
  • Mamoswine (base or shadow) – Powder Snow & Avalanche
  • Zapdos (base or shadow – Thunder Shock & Thunderbolt
  • Tyranitar (base or shadow) – Smack Down & Stone Edge
  • Aerodactyl (base or shadow) – Rock Throw & Rock Slide
  • Gilgath – Smack Down & Rock Slide
  • Mega Abomasnow – Powder Snow & Weather Ball
  • Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang & Avalanche

Trainers who are missing any of these can easily substitute in strong Pokemon with Electric or Rock-type moves. With Yveltal knowing Dark-type moves, avoid using Psychic or Ghost-type Pokemon.

Like the Xerneas raid, this round of Yveltal raids will not have a shiny variant. If you found this guide helpful, share it with your friends and other trainers. Like Xerneas, Yveltal’s raid stats may change before the start of the event. If this is the case, we will update the stats accordingly.
