In honor of Picard Day, Paramount + has released the first trailer for season 2 of Star Trek; Picard. The show comes from Alex Kurtzman and 12 Monkeys’ Terry Matales and stars Patrick Stewart, Allison Pill, and Heroes Star Santiago Cabrera. Season 2 will feature the returns of both John de Lancie as Q and Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan. You can watch the first trailer below.
Ever since it was announced Q was returning via a promo a few months ago, fans have been intrigued by what the return of the character would mean for the series going forward. Without any preamble, fans instantly get to see the first interaction between Q and our beloved captain in over 25 years on screen with the iconic character saying how much he’s missed him and proclaiming this is the end of his road not traveled. Amid glimpses of our crew, there is a mention of someone messing with time. The trailer closes on a new look at seven of nine who has somehow lost her borg implant, implying that in whatever timeline we’re in she was never assimilated by the borg.
While time travel stories are typical for Trek,(look no further than Star Trek 09 in which Picard’s Kurtzman was also involved) having Q involved always makes things more interesting. With De Lancie apparently set to appear in six episodes across seasons 2 and 3, Picard’s world is about to be shaken up once again. Hopefully, these appearances and the timeline shakeup will be worth the wait. We’ll find out in the months ahead.
Are you excited to see Q back or do you wish the trial would end? Why has Q decided to visit Picard now? What is Seven of Nine like without the Borg?
