WWE Releases The Fiend, Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt Released

Yowie Wowie! WWE strikes again! In the last two years, WWE has come under fire for a variety of reasons. A buggy video game, poor narratives, and releases have left fans and investors disappointed with WWE. During the pandemic, WWE has released more than its fair share of wrestlers. A wrestler leaving a company once their contract is close to the end is pretty typical, either by release, refusing to resign, or mutual agreement; however, over the last two years, WWE has released over 50 wrestlers during the pandemic. Today, July 31st, 2021 WWE has released Bray Wyatt aka The Fiend.

The release of Windham Lawrence Rotunda better known as Bray Wyatt or The Fiend comes as a bit of a surprise but not a shock. Bray Wyatt last appeared on WWE programming on the Monday Night Raw after Wrestlemania 37. After a disappointing year, the release of Bray Wyatt might be a godsend for Mr. Rotunda. During his last year and a half with the company, Bray Wyatt was forced to drop the WWE title to Goldberg in Saudi Arabia, performed in a horrible match against Seth Rollins in Hell in a Cell, and losing quickly to Orton at Wrestlemania 37.

Where Did The Fiend Go?

Many expected Bray Wyatt to return and avenge his loss at Wrestlemania 37 by getting revenge on Alexa Bliss. Sadly, after three months, this was not the case. According to Dave Meltzer, Rotunda was released from WWE as part of a Budget Cut. Rotunda’s younger brother Bo Dallas was released earlier during the Covid Pandemic. Former WWE wrestler Mickie James started that Bray Wyatt was released due to his character’s persona being passed on to another wrestler. For those who follow WWE, Alexa Bliss has taken on a character similar to The Fiend after being partnered with Rotunda up to Wrestlemania 37.

Rotunda wrestled in WWE for over a decade. What is next for the former Bray Wyatt? Will he show up in AEW like his former stablemate Jon Huber (Brodie Lee) and become the future leader of The Dark Order? Could he reunite with his other former stablemate Braun Strowman elsewhere or could we see The Fiend return to WWE down the line? Wrestling fans will just have to wait and see. WWE’s continued release of wrestlers as cost-cutting measures is a bit of a concern. Could WWE be in trouble? Where would you like to see Wyatt appear next?
