Forever Entertainment has announced a new partnership with Nintendo of Japan. Coming hot off the heals of high-profile announcements and releases, such as Panzer Dragoon and the remake of House of The Dead, Forever Entertainment is poised to expand to grow and bring more Polish talent to the Nintendo Switch.
The news comes via a press release, which was sent early this morning to press contacts. The press release states the following, “Forever Entertainment S. A. (FE) announces that Forever Seed Fund S.A. (FSF), a 100% subsidiary of FE, has entered into a service agreement with Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Nintendo) of Japan.
In accordance with provisions of the agreement, FSF in cooperation with Nintendo, shall seek for developers, with particular focus but not limited to Eastern Europe including Poland, who own, conduct or plan to develop innovative and high quality games. FSF shall cooperate with selected developers for games to be published on the Nintendo Switch.”
Take Away
What this means is great news for Forever Entertainment and Nintendo. Forever Entertainment has been working hard to gain steam and a presence for Polish game developers for Nintendo Switch. The group gained a lot of eyes when the remake of the fabled Panzer Dragoon was released as a timed- exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, with the game receiving an overall positive reception. Forever Games also released unique and distinct titles, such as Wanderlust: Travel Stories and the cyberpunk twin-stick shooter, Danger Scavenger. Recently, as part of the Spring Nintendo Direct, Forever Entertainment announced a remake of the classic arcade rail-gun shooter, House of the Dead.
As for Nintendo, it’s clear that indie games are discovering that their home lies on either Nintendo Switch or Xbox with PlayStation 4 seemingly alienating indie games developers and publishers in favor of grand, high-budget titles. Where Xbox has their ID@Xbox brand and Gamepass, Nintendo has been expanding into Nindies, giving indie teams a platform, and even their own Direct with their Nindies Showcase. It’s clear that Nintendo is recognizing the importance of indie games and how they benefit Nintendo’s gaming ecosystem, and even compliment the larger releases.
As for PlayStation, there have been visible signs for indies to avoid releasing to the platform, if possible. From PlayStation’s censorship policies to the alienation against Vita fanbase to Neon Doctrine’s Ian Garner and their “Platform X” thread. Additionally, their State of Plays, and the overall visual-presence of PlayStation, has not been as warm and welcoming of indies for some time now, most especially compared to the PlayStation brand of 5 to 10 years ago, when indies were a critical lifeline for the PlayStation brand and its success.
What’s Next?
As we make our way into 2022, there’s no telling what will happen next, but the greatest of success will not be determined in the newest hardware but the abundance and quality of software, which especially means the scene of indie game developers. How indies are seen, treated, and supported are indications of how receptive of gaming brand is to developers and players alike, taking into account their work ethics, visions, and philosophies. Based upon this news, Nintendo is paving their way to an incredibly bright future where Independent game developers don’t just find a home, but a family.
