The new The Batman trailer has finally arrived! Starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character alongside Zoe Kravitz and Motion Capture veteran and Dawn of The Planet of the Apes star Andy Serkis as Alfred respectively, the latest chapter in the Dark Knights cinematic legacy is directed by Matt Reeves from a script by Reeves, Peter Craig and Project Power’s Mattson Tomlin. Check out the trailer below.
In the lead-up to the trailer’s premiere, Reeves, Pattinson, and Kravitz discussed the film with the director comparing this iteration of Bruce Wayne to a rockstar and describing his relief when Pattinson was open to taking on the role.
From there, we got a look at the trailer, which once again has Nirvana playing in the background alongside Michael Giacchino’s score. The footage itself initially showcases the GCPD arresting the Riddler as we get a look at the Bat-signal, Pattinson’s voiceover proclaiming it to not just be a signal but a warning. We also get a better look at Colin Farrell’s HBO Max-bound Penguin and Alfred warning Bruce not to lose himself to this crusade. One of the only underwhelming moments, unfortunately, was with Catwoman and Batman. While what little we see from the pair it was absolutely pitch-perfect, it almost felt perfunctory, and judging from Kravitz’s comments prior to the trailer premiere feels like it’s going to be a while before we see Batman/Catwoman relationship fans have been expecting.
However, the culmination of this trailer makes up for this with an extended look at the chase scene from the first trailer, the penguin initially gleeful n his apparent triumph of the Dark Knight, only for the Earth One-Inspired Batmobile to still be in hot-no pun intended-pursuit of the villain, his car ultimately flipping over as Batman approaches the beleaguered umbrella-loving villain. This trailer was well worth the wait and I’ll definitely be there opening night when-barring any IASTE strike delay the film opens on March 4, 2022
