The trailer for the highly anticipated Uncharted adaptation has finally arrived online. The film, which is set to act as something of a prequel to the game franchise, stars Spider-Man’s Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan. The film is directed by Gangster Squad and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. Check out the trailer here:
Right from the opening of the trailer, we get a sense of mystery and adventure. From there, we see Tom Holland doing his best impression of Tom Cruise in Cocktail as we get a feel for the dynamic between Sully and Drake as they set out to uncover what Nate’s brother, Sam, left behind. After we get a brief introduction to fan-favorite Chloe Frazer for the first time, there’s a glimpse of some great action and even some comedic moments that showcase the youth and naivete of Holland’s Drake.
The trailer culminates in what looks to be a scene out of Uncharted 3. The casting of Tom Holland has always caused fans to raise their eyebrows, dismissing the idea of a prequel. While a lot of fans wanted Nathan Fillion to play the role, something that briefly came to fruition in a fan film a few years ago, judging by the footage on display here, Holland seems to fit in here. In the initial conception of the Holland version of the film, which started as a conversation between Sony Chairman Tom Rothman and Holland, the latter of whom apparently expressed enthusiasm for the Marvel star to play a young Drake, taking its cues from some flashbacks depicted in the games.
Holland Grow In the Role
Hopefully, Holland can grow into the Nate fans love as the series goes along. Regardless, I can’t wait to see the film when it finally debuts in theatres on February 22nd. Was this trailer worth the wait, or are you still not sold on Holland? What was your favorite moment from the trailer? Do you think Nathan Fillion will make a cameo?
