Fans of Mario Kart likely have a lot of nostalgia for Mario Kart 64. While not the first entry in the series, Mario Kart 64 is definitely the most influential. Not only did it introduce Mario Kart into the world of 3D, but it also set the template for any proceeding kart racers. One aspect of the game, that is often overlooked, is its soundtrack. The music has a distinct feel and is distinguishable from later titles. The music label GameGrooves released Skario Kart on December 14th, 2021
Skario Kart: A Ska Tribute to Mario Kart 64 is an album featuring 16 classic Mario Kart 64 tracks. But there’s a twist! As the title suggests, each of the game’s tracks is actually ska remixes of retro tunes! Producer of GameGrooves, Allen Brasch, was heavily inspired by the musical group Skatune Network. Allen was inspired to completely revamp the Mario Kart 64 soundtrack into something that would celebrate both the game and ska. Through collaboration, he was able to achieve his goal.
“With the help of Brent and Jer from Skatune Network, I was able to contact several artists in the ska community, and together with existing GameGrooves artists, we created a one-of-a-kind album for fans of ska and video game music alike!” – GameGrooves Producer Allen Brasch
