Over the last month, rumors and news posts have emerged indicating the release of Ghostwire: Tokyo was imminent. Last year, Tango Gameworks and Bethesda announced that Ghostwire: Tokyo would be delayed until early 2022. Since the pandemic started, it has become rather standard for a AAA title to be delayed a minimum of three to six months; in some of the worst cases, the game has been delayed over a year or released in an unfinished or buggy manner. Rather than releasing an unfinished product like Halo Infinite or Cyberpunk 2077, Tango Games waited. Now, they have announced the official release date of Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Today, Bethesda and Tango Games announced that Ghostwire: Tokyo would be releasing on March 25th, 2022. Despite the official announcement today, many in the industry knew or at least expected the game would release soon. This is thanks to the PSN page updating two weeks ago and the Korean game’s rating board. Additionally, a preview piece titled “Ghostwire Tokyo is putting the PKE in FPS.” was released by VideoGamesChronicle.com.
Before the announcement of Tango Games’ new game, many suspected the Studio was working on The Evil Within 3. In a hands-off interview, Gamespot was informed that Ghostwire: Tokyo was originally being developed as The Evil Within 3. As the game was developed it evolved and warranted its own IP. So, fans of The Evil Within should expect some similar attributes in Tango Games’ next game.
The Announcement
Ghostwire: Tokyo is an action-adventure game that challenges players to master the mystical arts of Ethereal Weaving while working to defeat the menacing Hannya and his followers, the Visitors, who have invaded Tokyo. These supernatural entities roam the stunning world of Ghostwire, creating a scintillating atmosphere that is a love letter to Tokyo, its curiosities, and secrets.
Ghostwire: Tokyo will transport players to an intriguing world filled with characters from Japanese legends, folklore, and tales. These stories have inspired many of the unusual creatures you will encounter, giving Ghostwire a true-to-Tokyo flavor. Crafted by the inventive minds at Tango Gameworks, players will traverse Tokyo’s ultra-modern cityscape, discover iconic landmarks, and uncover secrets hidden throughout it.
Players who venture off the beaten path will also find charming characters in need of assistance, countless spirits in need of rescuing, and unexpected purry friends who can exchange rare finds for generous rewards. Optional stories in Ghostwire are not the usual side content fare, but rather lovable tales that further flesh out the game’s world and vision.
