Many gamers have joked, over the years, about the Switch being a mini Steam machine. Many games, both exclusive to the platform or just available on, have trickled their way onto Nintendo Switch. One glaring omission for many years has been Valve’s award-winning franchise, Portal, besides 2017’s Bridge Constructor spinoff. Confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct, the influential physics-puzzler is heading to Nintendo Switch, in Portal: Companion Collection.
This was a Triumpth
“Originally released as part of The Orange Box, Portal was heralded as a ground-breaking puzzle platforming game that changed the way players could approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment.
Throughout Portal, which is played from a first-person perspective, players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuver objects, and themselves, through space. The game also leverages a darkly humorous narrative. As players adventure and puzzle their way through the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories.
Portal 2 is the hilariously mind-bending adventure that again challenges players to use wits over weaponry in a funhouse of diabolical science. Using the highly experimental Portal device, players once again face off against a lethally inventive, power-mad A.I. named GLaDOS. Players meet an expanded cast of characters as they think their way through dangerous, never-before-seen areas of the laboratories and a wider variety of portal puzzles. Plus Portal 2 also includes a cooperative game mode with local, split-screen, and online multiplayer.”
Coming 2022
Portal: Companion Collection features both the 2007 classic Portal and its multiple award-winning sequel Portal 2. In collaboration with NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios, these ports were developed specifically for the Nintendo Switch. The physics-defying gameplay and dark humor, that made the series, will finally be arriving later this year. Although no official release date has been confirmed, the suggested eShop price is $19.99 USD. While Valve still has no word on a physical release, keep it locked to Marooner’s Rock for future coverage!
