The wolf howls once more throughout Fable Town. It’s been a long time coming, but Telltale Games and Geoff Knightly have excitedly announced a reveal for The Wolf Among Us 2. The long-awaited sequel, which has come back from the dead, is now set to be revealed to the world.
The news comes via a press release from Telltale games, along with social media posts on Twitter and Facebook teasing the announcement. The tease detailed a 30-minute stream with Geoff Knightly, showing behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the game. The most exciting detail of the tease is the unveiling of a brand-new trailer, showing the first glimpse at the story of The World Among Us 2, and where we find the residents of Fable Town after the events of the first.
First released in 2013, The Wolf Among Us is an episodic graphic drama and murder mystery released for the PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360, before being ported to PlayStation Vita, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile platforms. The ports were physical, with all content contained on the disc.
The Wolf Among Us is based on the graphic novel series, Fables, by Bill Willingham, which centers on the figures of fairy tales and folklore surviving a dirty and crime-filled New York City. In The Wolf Among Us, players play as Bigby, formerly The Big Bad Wolf. Bigby is the sheriff of Fabletown, and when a gruesome murder occurs within its protective barriers, Bigby sets off on a dark, grimy, and horrifying journey into the underbelly of Fabletown, and surrounding New York City.
The Wolf Among Us became a solid success for TellTale Studios, a welcome change as the company had previously worked on Jurassic Park the Game and The Walking Dead. The game established a cult following and strong word of mouth pushed the game towards the top of must-play lists. A sequel was announced in 2018 and was actively being worked on until the regrettably financial difficulties incurred at Telltale forced the studio to shut down and dissolve. Fortunately, the studio has returned, and many of the original team members have returned for the sequel. During The Game Awards of 2019, a small teaser was unveiled, establishing The Wolf Among Us 2 was indeed revived and in active development. Since then, there has hardly been, if any, a word about it’s progress or release.
The Wolf Among Us ended on a solid note, with a strong tease that there was more to Fable Town than meets the eye. I play the heck out of the game back in 2013, binging it during college finals and winter break. I couldn’t get enough out on this mature telling of famous fairy tales, from The Three Little Pigs to Snow White. The performances were off the charts and the story was mesmerizing, dark, and overwhelmingly interesting. Since then, I’ve been looking for answers, and Wednesday, we will get them. Still, what will be revealed remains a total mystery. Moreso, as this is TellTales first release and part of a larger comeback, will this new release follow the episodic format of its predecessor or release all at once? Interesting times are ahead and I greatly look forward to this new chapter for Telltale Games.
The Wolf Among Us 2 unveiling event will begin on February 9th, on YouTube, beginning at 10 am PT/1 pm EST.
