Back in 2019, developer IllFonic made a name for themselves, releasing their first asymmetrical multiplayer, Friday the 13th: The Game. This tantalizing take on the popular 80s horror series pitted 8 players against the sinister Jason. One year later, the team would release another asymmetrical multiplayer, this time based on the Predator franchise. Predator: Hunting Grounds threw four players into a remote jungle, forcing them to cooperate on missions in order to defeat the lone Predator. IllFonic’s ambitious twist on licensed multiplayers continues, as they just revealed their latest title, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 first-person asymmetrical multiplayer shooter. A team of 4 players must take on the role of Ghostbusters, in order to trap a mischievous spirit. Another player takes control of the Ghost, where they’re able to terrorize NPCs, slime Ghostbusters, and reak havoc on the in-game locations.
“Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved IPs in the world, so we are pulling out all the stops to make something special and accessible to this diverse fanbase. If you’re someone who loves the movies or asymmetrical multiplayer games, this was made for you.” – Charles Brungardt, CEO, IllFonic.
While no official release date has been given, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is slated for a Q4 2022 release. The Ecto-1 will be crashing onto PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store. For more info, be sure to visit Illfonic’s official website.
