It’s still Spring but the Summer just got started. Neowiz games in Seattle, Washington have announced their newest game, Unsouled, is ready for launch, and it’s coming sooner than you think! An action ARPG, with brutal and fast-paced gameplay, Unsouled launches on April 28th on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Gamepass.
Coming fresh off the releases of Skul and Dandy Ace, Metal Unit. Unsouled is an action RPG, where players don the armor of a fallen knight. In this strange land of the undead, players fight to uncover the mystery of the strange land, and perhaps a means to achieve redemption in death. Unsouled is an action RPG with an emphasis on hacking and slashing, and while it may sound simple, Unsouled is anything but. The team at Neowiz has designed a robust and in-depth combat system that encourages timing, awareness, and style. Unsouled features the Abyss System, which allows players to better understand the combat systems of the game, allowing players to finesse and practice their attacks, and learn how to initiate chained attacks. As this is the land of the dead, players can collect souls. Some have an immediate effect on players, enhancing their abilities, while others can be customized to be better suited for a player’s combat preferences. Players journey across 5 beautifully crafted worlds chapters in the land of the Undead, featuring vibrant landscapes and views, all meticulously crafted and designed in a pixel aesthetic, reminiscent of classic games in the 90s. It’s a brutal journey in the Undead, but that pursuit of life is worth the pain.

Unsouled looks like another exciting offering from Neowiz. Its focus on its combat system and intriguing presentation will certainly be a draw for those looking to experience something different as we enter the Summer of gaming. Additionally, Gamepass continues to be extraordinarily supportive of lesser-known indies and I am glad that the people in charge at Microsoft are giving games like Unsouled a chance to be seen by millions of players. It’s been a while since a top-down ARPG has appeared on the scene, and I am looking forward to seeing Unsouled.
