Warner Bros wanted to drop Amber Heard in Aquaman 2; role in sequel ‘pared down’

Amber Heard Aquaman

When Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuts in theatres next year, Aquaman won’t be seeing much of his queen. During the ongoing Depp/Heard defamation case, Amber Heard testified that in the wake of her divorce and the 2018 op-ed, her role in the Aquaman sequel had been continuously ‘pared down’ with the actress nearly being dropped from the film if not for the intervention of two unnamed executives.

While the initial reason given for the studio’s reticence was a lack of chemistry, Heard’s lies have clearly come back to haunt her with many fans taking issue with the double standard of WB retaining her services but asking Depp to resign from the Wizarding World franchise. Depp had only filmed one day on the recently-released Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Grindlewald and was replaced with Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen.

That being said, much of Heard’s aforementioned testimony on the Aquaman matter has been corroborated by multiple insiders over the years with Warner Bros hedging their bets depending on how the trials went. Subsequently, Amber Heard claimed she was ‘released’ from her contract and has no idea if they’ll use the footage she shot.

Heard’s Future

Amber Heard has always been a fun addition to whatever film she’s in whether it was Never Back Down or Drive Angry. When news came that she was to play iconic DC heroine Mera in the 2017 Justice League and subsequently the aforementioned Aquaman films, this was ostensibly supposed to be a new beginning for the actress. However, after her abysmal performance on the stand, Warner Bros is well within their rights to hopefully cut Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (which, it should be noted, wrapped in January 2022) and release her from any further films. Given that the sequel marked the end of her contract, it’s safe to say we won’t have to worry about the latter.

What do you think about Heard’s role being reduced in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Do you think she deserved this or are you Team Heard.
