We Were Here Forever PAX East 2022 Preview

We Were Here Forever

During conventions, it is very rare for someone to play the same demo more than once at a convention. With so many games to see and panels to attend, each attendee’s time is precious; however, there are times when a demo stands out for one reason or another and you have to play it again. At PAX East, it is a luxury to be able to play a game’s demo without having to wait in a long line. At PAX East 2022, we took the time to preview Total Mayhem Games’ fourth Game, We Were Here Forever, not once but twice.

So why did we play We Were Here Forever twice at PAX East 2022? On the first day of PAX East 2022, Thursday, we attended the Gearbox panel, played two demos, and held an impromptu interview. We will put up the TMNT Shredder’s Revenge interview at a later date. First, we started off with M2H’s and Black Mill Games, WW1 Isonzo; look for our PAX East 2022, WW1 Isonzo coverage also at a later date/

After seeing what WW1 Isonzo had to offer, their representative Jessica escorted us over to Total Mayhem Games to preview We Were Here Forever. Despite scheduling an appointment, we were unaware that the demo would require two players to play. So it was time to make a new friend. a special thanks to Jessica for helping us with the demo the first time even though we didn’t make much progress.

Hands-On

Like It Takes Two, We Were Here Forever focuses on teamwork and getting over obstacles together. The demo’s puzzle is supposedly only one level out of over two dozen (24). In the demo, cooperation was key. The game requires both players to communicate with one another to solve the puzzle. In the demo, we had to use walkie-talkies to talk with one another.  The goal was to escape the mysterious dark dimension.

At the start of the demo, we could only see three rooms. Each room had a variety of symbols above its doorways. The only way to escape the room was to coordinate with one another to rotate the room to match the adjacent archways tile. As we got closer to finishing the puzzle, the evil being trapping us in the area taunted us. Sadly, we were not able to finish the puzzle either time, but we were able to understand where we went wrong the first time; it made us understand how we could improve the second time.

Our second playthrough of We Were Here Forever was when we accompanied Steve from Seasoned Gaming to his appointment. In that playthrough, after explaining the mechanics of the puzzle, we were able to fly through it; sadly, with a shorter time frame to complete it (20mins to 15mins), we were unable to complete the demo.

The thrill of trying to rush to complete the demo in a way made it more interesting. Yes the puzzle was fun and the mechanics were understandable, but that pressure to complete it in the allotted time made it even more exhilarating.

Hopefully when the game releases there will be timed puzzles. We Were Here Forever will be coming to Steam, Epic Game Store, Xbox, and PlayStation. Prepare to face mayhem in May of 2022. We can’t wait to see how it all turns out when the game releases.
