NIS America, the premier leader in marketing creative and distinctive games, has announced the release date for its newest anticipated release, Yurukill: The Calumniation Games. Launching July 5th, Yurukill: The Calumniation Games is a combination of mystery, sci-fi, and the supernatural, all wrapped into an experience that is a blending of a spaceship shooter and a murder mystery.
Yurukill: The Calumniation Games puts players into the role of Sengoku Shunjum, a young man who wakes up in a supernatural prison. With no memory of what happened, or how he got there, he has been summoned by a mysterious masked woman to participate in the games of Yurukill Land, an amusement park where the attendees are judged and losing means eternal damnation. The games within the amusement park pit several teams against each other: The Crafty Killers, The Sly Stalkers, The Death Dealing Duo, and The Peeping Toms. Each gang is competing in the games, and the winner will have their crimes pardoned. The catch is each of the accused must participate with a victim of their crimes. In the case of Sengoku Shunjum, he has paired a victim of one of his alleged crimes, Rina Azami. Vengeful over the crime Sengoku committed, the two must find a means to work together and survive if they are to hope to escape this twisted game.
Yurukill: The Calumniation Games is unique in that it promises to be unlike anything seen with the subject matter. Yurukill: The Calumniation Games puts players into spaceship shooting segments, complete with mechs, as players not only defeat enemies but attempt to uncover the truth as to how and why they are trapped in Yurukill Land. Each battle is a battle of the mind, to cleanse the notion that Sengoku is guilty, and find out what really happens. The shoot-’em up sections are only one part of Yurukill Land. Players search for clues throughout the park, complete sentences in the Labyrinth of Thought, locate evidence in sub-space flights and purge the prejudice from the minds of the prosecution. It’s a game of judgment and only the truth can set Sengoku free.
I have neither seen more heard of a game quite like Yurukill: The Calumniation Games. It’s part spaceship shoot-’em up and part mind game, as well as a full-on murder mystery. It’s simply remarkable to see Yurukill: The Calumniation Games exist as is. Most games would stick to a tried-and-true gameplay formula, but the developers of Yurukill: The Calumniation Games are ambitious and based upon the trailer, seems to have carved a truly unique experience. G.rev a team that consists of former Taito that worked on G-Darius and RayStorm created the shoot-’em up sections. As a huge fan of shmups, and most especially RayStorm, it goes without saying the shoot’-em up stages will be excellent. As for the story, Homura Kawamoto is penning the tale, and he is the author of the critically acclaimed Kakegurui, a gambling-focused manga and Netflix anime that has been acclaimed for its story and themes. It remains to be seen how this mystery unfolds, but players won’t have to wait long as the game launches the day after July 4th.
Yurukill: The Calumniation Games launched for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, and Steam on July 5th, 2022.
