Over the last year, Overwatch fans on PlayStation and Xbox have eagerly awaited their chance to play Overwatch 2. Earlier this year, PC gamers had the opportunity to participate in a closed Alpha. This closed Alpha gave players a quick glance at what Overwatch 2 has to offer. This closed alpha left many players concerned about the series’ direction. In the alpha, players saw the return of beloved franchise heroes with some twists. Sadly, not all of these twists left players excited, let alone amused. The alpha only showcased maps players have already grown accustomed to.
In today’s first trailer, players got a teaser of what is to come when Overwatch 2 releases in October. Overwatch 2’s early access starts on October 4th, 2022. The trailer showcased some of the new characters coming to the game and changes made to some beloved characters. Gone are the 6 vs 6 matches. Instead, this has been replaced with 5 vs 5 combat allowing teams to have only one tank. The trailer showcases two new characters, one of which would be shown later in the show. The first character reminds players of Sombra but with Solider 76 mechanics, while the other gives a new spin to the Junkertown heroes.
A New Hero in Overwatch 2
The second trailer shows off one of Overwatch 2’s newest heroes the Junker Queen. In the first trailer, we can see her spinning through enemy lines; this ability will most likely make her an offensive assassin. In the Junker Queen trailer, she talks about how she intends to challenge the Junker King. In order to do this, she will have to take on Geiger and Meri in order to take on the Junker King, Mason Howl. However, this king doesn’t fight fair and she will have to win the throne through adversity.
With the trailer ending with to be continued, we can expect that Overwatch 2 will have more story-based gameplay available when it launches in October. Free-to-Play early access starts on October 4th on Xbox consoles and PC.
