Pistol Whip: Contracts Arrives June 16th as a Free Update

Time to dance and shoot like there’s no tomorrow. Developer Cloudhead Games is excited to announce a brand new update to its exciting VR shooter, Pistol Whip. This latest update follows several successful DLCs, which include the sci-fi-infused Pistol Whip 2089 and the Western-themed Pistol Whip: Smoke and Thunder

The news was announced on the PlayStation Blog, where the developers detail the new Contracts update. Pistol Whip: Contracts is a brand new competitive update that puts players from around the world against each other to participate and complete contracts. The update is designed to make Pistol Whip more accessible as well and streamline the action to become far more instantaneous. Players who simply want to pick up the game and eliminate their target may now do so. The mode is broken into daily, weekly, and monthly contracts. Daily contracts are quick contracts, refreshed daily. Weekly provides more challenge, putting players through multiple scenes. Finally, monthly is for the most skilled and daring of players as players survive five scenes of mayhem to accomplish their goal. Winners of these contracts will be awarded medallions A bevy of new customizable options and modifications will be available to players as well. The team is excited to keep the energy of Pistol Whip going, even several years after its initial launch in 2019.

“Contracts use our wide variety of gameplay ingredients, plus a few new surprises, to serve up delicious layer-cakes of revenge, every day.” Says Joel Green, Game Director. “The optional multi-scene endurance contracts are something we’ve long wanted to add, and the designers are thirstily anticipating the inevitable suffering of our more audacious players.”

Pistol Whip launched in November 2019, and as of this post, has garnered the “Mostly Positive” ranking out of over 2,000 user reviews. Following its release on Steam, Pistol Whip made its way to PlayStation VR and Meta Quest. Combining the mechanics of a rhythm shooter, the game is greatly inspired by what has been dubbed John Wick Mode, which infuses EDM and dubstep into an intricately and stylistically crafted action sequence in which the player must down every enemy in highly charged action-packed gunfights. It’s a sensation filled with emotion, attitude, and vengeance. In Pistol Whip, players fight entire armies, all themed to the best of today’s hottest EDM artists, and use their bodies to punch, shoot, and take cover. Pistol Whip has a variety of customization options to craft their preferred pistol of choice, and a bevy of modifications to tailor players to their preferred difficulty.

There are many VR games out there, but I’d argue Pistol Whip is one of the best ones out there. It’s more than stylish but it’s a blast to play, and incredibly unique among the rhythm-based games on the market. It wears its inspirations for the John Wick movies on its sleeve and goes all-in on that inspiration, creating an action-packed and euphoric thrill ride. I had a blast playing Pistol Whip in the past, and it looks like it’s time to revisit the madness.

Pistol Whip is available on Steam VR, PSVR, and Meta Quest. The Contracts update goes live on June 16th.
