Sony State of Play Recap 6/2

PlayStation State of Play Logo

The start of Summer is quickly approaching. With June typically comes E3, however, since the start of the pandemic, E3 has been replaced with Summer Game Fest. At the moment, it is uncertain if E3 will be permanently been replaced with Summer Game Fest or if it is only a temporary change. On Thursday, Sony kicked off Summer Game Fest with the PlayStation State of Play. Most in the industry expected the Sony press conference to go for at least an hour; however, the latest PlayStation State of Play went under thirty minutes. Here is what was covered during the event.

The conference primarily focused on PSVR2 games coming out, games coming to the PC, and games coming out to PS4, PS5, Xbox, Xbox Series, and PC. The State of Play opened up with a fan-favorite series that many knew was in the works. Welcome back Resident Evil 4, hopefully, this time with less Ashley.

PSVR2

After the reveal of Resident Evil 4, PlayStation followed up the announcement with Resident Evil Village VR coming to the PSVR2. This announcement of vampire mommy, I mean Lady D, was followed up by The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, No Mans Sky, and Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Indies

After announcing a Horizon Forbidden West update, Sony showcased a variety of Indie titles coming to PlayStation. During the conference, Sony announced Tunic (PS4 &PS5), Eternights, Rollerdrome, and Season: A Letter to the Future.

AAA Titles

After the indie titles came multiple AAA trailers. First Sony revealed that Spiderman will be released on PC; the PC version will be Marvel Spiderman Remastered. After Sony fans lost their mind about Spiderman going to PC, Sony revealed more information on Stray. PlayStation Plus users of a certain tier will be able to download and play Stray upon release.

Not to be shown up, The Callisto Protocol and Street Fighter 6 showed off all the brutality. Honestly, The Callisto Protocol was the most enticing due to our love of Dead Space. This next year with Dead Space Remastered and The Callisto Protocol coming out will be an exciting but horrifying time.

The Finale

The PlayStation State of Play ended with a more detailed look at Final Fantasy 16. With crisp graphics and combat similar to Final Fantasy 15/Kingdom Hearts 3. Prepare for epic boss battles putting your skills to the test. Although a year away, it is easy to see why Final Fantasy fans are excited for Final Fantasy 16.

How would you grade Sony’s State of Play? Which of the games during the press conference are you excited for?
