The Callisto Protocol’s Dark Trailer at SGF

The Callisto Protocol

Earlier this week, Sony showcased new footage for The Callisto Protocol. Yes, you are correct, The Callisto Protocol is not a PlayStation Exclusive title but it was definitely a highlight during PlayStation’s State of Play. During the Summer Game Fest live stream, Striking Distance Studios CEO Glen Schofield joined the stream to unveil the Schofield Cut and a new gameplay demo. The Schofield Cut showcases 30 additional seconds of footage of the upcoming game; during this footage, onlookers had the opportunity to see a new vicious death of the game’s hero Jacob Lee. So what else do the developers have to showcase?

Escape a gruesome and horror-filled prison as Jeffery Dean Morgan welcomes you to the insanity. In the additional 30 seconds of footage, we can see a variety of executions that Jacob Lee (Josh Duhamel) can perform. This footage also shows off a melee weapon similar to a plasma cutter. In the final sequence, you are welcomed to your new home as Jacob Lee’s head is bitten in half.

The Callisto Protocol Medbay

In the gameplay trailer, players get an early look at the game as the player explores the Medbay. This trailer showcases some of the fun ways Jacob can die and the inspiration it takes from Dead Space. As Jacob explores the Medbay, he is able to see what has transpired. Exiting the Medbay, an enemy appears in front and Jacob is able to use a weapon that can pull the enemy towards him and then push it away. The trailer showcases that what’s dead isn’t always dead and can still be useful after death. Jacob will need to be careful when moving around the environment or else the environment will get rid of him before the monsters can.

Quotes

Glen Schofield, CEO of Striking Distance Studios had this to say about the Callisto Protocol,

“As a game director, there’s nothing more satisfying than taking players on a terrifying ride that stays with them long after they’ve put the controller down. Survival horror games have been my passion for decades, and I’m excited to take advantage of the latest consoles to take the genre to terrifying new places when we ship The Callisto Protocol later this year.”
