Rockers, it’s that time of the year again. No, we are not talking about Summer Game Fest, although that is still the possibility that some major video game announcements this Summer. Instead, the beginning of July typically marks major manga and anime news being released during Anime Expo. Yes, there is the occasional big announcement during Colossalcon, but most come during Anime Expo. This is typical because Crunchyroll, Funimation, and other studios are present at the event; this year’s event is already exceeded even the host’s expectations. Panty & Stocking Season 2’s announcement is the second biggest shocking thing coming out of Anime Expo this year.
If you have yet to see the images or videos, people were so excited about Anime Expo 2022 that the event sold out. What makes matters worse, is that some ticketed guests were not permitted to the event hall due to overcrowding and the convention center’s AC malfunctioning. Beyond some setbacks, there has been a lot of excitement around Anime Expo 2022 due to all the major announcements. Within the last 24 hours, there has been news regarding Solo Leveling, Princess Connect! Re: Dive, Overlord IV, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and To Your Eternity Season 2. Although these are all exciting, arguably Trigun Stampede and the announcement of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt season 2.
2022 marks the 12-year anniversary of the release of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. The second season was announced during Studio Trigger’s tenth-anniversary panel at Anime Expo. This announcement came as a bit of a surprise to many since the first season was criticized for being lewd and crude. Despite receiving criticism, this has not stopped the fandom from growing; this is partially due to its availability on Netflix. Both Monica Rial & Jamie Marchi have responded to the announcement of a second season of Panty & Stocking with excitement.
