Comic-Con 2022: Shazam! Fury of the Gods Trailer

Comic-Con 2022: Shazam! Fury of the Gods Trailer

The first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods was shown to fans at Comic-Con! The film stars Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Lucy Liu, Blood Diamond and Never Back Down star Djimon Hounsou, as well as Dame Helen Mirren with a script by Henry Gayden and Fast and Furious’ Chris Morgan. David F. Sandberg returns to helm the sequel. Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson and Hiram Garcia produce through their Seven Bucks Productions company. Check out the trailer below.

In the trailer, it looks as though Shazam! (a.k.a. Billy Batson) is having a crisis of confidence as he recounts how awesome the Justice League is. Everyone in the Shazam family has gotten used to their powers and are off doing their own thing, while Billy is trying to keep everyone together. The Wizard returns and tells the family that the gods are upset with them with Mirren’s Hespira scoffing at the idea of children stealing the gods’ power. After a well-placed Fast and Furious joke, the trailer culminates in Shazam! throwing a truck at a dragon, something in which our titular character takes a lot of pleasure.

While the original plan had been to feature Shazam! and Black Adam in the same film, Johnson nixed that idea, preferring to give both characters their own individual films and bring them together down the road. While we’ve yet to see how that turned out for the Man in Black, it definitely was the right decision for the character formerly known as Captain Marvel. The original Shazam! film was released in 2019 to a flurry of positive reviews, soon after Gayden was announced to be writing the sequel. While Shazam! Fury of the Gods had been originally scheduled for a June 2023 release, we can now expect to be glued to the big screen in December 2022. Judging by this trailer, you can definitely see why I can’t wait to see the Shazam family back on screen!
