Dusk Diver 2 New Combat System Trailer

Dusk Diver 2 New Combat System Trailer

The heat is getting hotter as the ambitious follow-up to Dusk Diver nears its release. On August 30th Dusk Diver 2 hits consoles, bringing forth stylish anime-inspired fighting action. To prepare for the release, developer WANIN International has release a combat overview for Dusk Diver 2.

Dusk Diver 2 has ramped up its combat system to become what one user called more “free-flowing”. The trailer goes on to show the basics and options. New to the formula established in its predecessor is the ability to seamlessly transition between party members in the heat of battle. In the first game, players locked in to only play as Yang Yumo, the game’s protagonist, with only a handful of support attacks from party members. in Dusk Diver 2,  players pick party members instantly in combat, and utilize their strengths to the player’s preference. Additionally, dodge and counters are now more woven into the combat. A successful dodge allows for players to movie quickly as the rest of the world moves slowly, and a successfully counter leads to a devastating counter attack. Players earn in-game currency to use to level up characters. Finally, players can stun enemies and imitate break attacks for maximum damage.

This new iteration follows Yang Yumo, the protagonist from the first game. It’s been one year following the Youshanding Incident in Taiwan, where Yang and a host of heroes fought to defend the city, and humankind, from marauding demons. Injured in the final battle, Yang has been working to live a normal life as a college student, until a new yet familiar threat encroaches upon Taiwan. The entire gang is back in this fully enhanced sequel, featuring more action than ever before.

Dusk Diver in 2019 was a very pleasant surprise. There will be detractors that compare it to other JRPGs, such as Tokyo Xanadu and even Persona but Dusk Diver has a unique viewpoint all its own, from the protagonist to the setting. Taking place in Taiwan, the setup and atmosphere is refreshingly different. The focus on action and brawling makes the experience satisfying. The story, focused on a young woman trying to accept her role in the grand scheme of unnatural occurrences, makes for a distinct setup. The first Dusk Diver is available on console and PC and is certainly recommended for those looking for a quick JRPG action experience that is more streamlined than the competition. With the sequel coming out, the ambition to see Yang Yumo’s story continue, coupled with the reworked action mechanics, is quite high.

Dusk Diver 2 arrives for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5 on August 30th.
