Earlier this month, Volition and Deep Silver held an event celebrating the upcoming launch of Saints Row. The event welcomed many members of the industry and influencers to get a sneak peek at the game. Sadly, we were not able to attend due to most of our core staff living on the east coast; however, other journalists that we are connected with shared a positive review of the event. In addition to enjoying the event, what they said made us look forward to Saints Row‘s launch on August 23rd. So, why should you be excited for Saints Row in August?
When it comes to Saints Row you are in one of three camps; either you enjoy the original’s vision, like the superhero-like style, or enjoyed the series as a whole. When we typically talk to fans of the franchise, we commonly hear that the first two games were the best. In fact, it is rare for us to hear that Saints Row 3, Saints Row IV, or Gat out of Hell was their favorite. However, for some, these three titles were their only experience with the Saints Row franchise due to Xbox Games with Gold offerings.
What to Expect in Saints Row
Rather than being a continuation of the series everyone knows, the Saints Row reboot looks to blend what people loved from all five games together. Creative control appears to be the focus of Volition’s new Saints Row. Players can use the game’s smartphone in order to change missions, customize their character, and learn new skills. Rather than being forced into a linear storyline, players are able to explore the area and find ways to make the story their own. Co-op makes a return with two-player drop-in and drop-out co-op; this feature will be available across the whole campaign.
The Saints Row reboot will not have a direct tie-in to the original franchise but should reignite the passion in fans’ hearts. Traveling through Santo Lleso will be easier than in previous games; the game features a fast travel system but players can enjoy traveling through the area by using wingsuits, helicopters, or other vehicles. The city and surrounding elements pull elements from a variety of popular cities and landmarks. Expect industrial parts and desert landscapes in Saints Row.
Although XP and money will be part of the game, it will not stop you from progressing through the campaign. The main story is expected to be around 25 main missions but will feature a bunch of side missions and events to keep players occupied.
