Constantine Sequel In The Works

Constantine Sequel In The Works

Keanu Reeves is about to get back into some dangerous habits. Deadline reports that the long-rumored sequel to 2005’s Constantine is officially a go, with Reeves returning as the titular chain-smoking Demonologist. Also returning are director Francis Lawrence and Akiva Goldsman. Additionally, JJ Abrams, who had been developing a Constantine TV show, will also be producing via his Bad Robot production banner.

Back In The Zeitgeist

Created by Watchmen’s Alan Moore in the pages of Swamp Thing, Constantine has been back in the cultural Zeitgeist the last several years, most recently courtesy of Netflix’s Sandman adaptation, where Dr. Who’s Jenna Coleman portrayed a gender-bent version of the character. Before that, actor Matt Ryan played the ‘Petty Dabbler of the Dark Arts’ for over seven years across multiple shows and networks. Abrams’ show, set in a dark version of modern-day London, is being shopped to other networks.

Multiple Projects

When Abrams was announced to be signing with Warner Bros, this Constantine show set in a modern-day dark version of London, alongside Justice League Dark we’re said to be his main DC project. Neither of these involved Reeves, as Abrams was going in a different direction. Thankfully, things have come back around for the fan-favorite actor. For Reeves, this is the third legacy role that he has reprised in recent years, following both Ted Theodore Logan in Bill and Ted 3 and The Matrix Resurrections as Thomas Neo Anderson.

More Down The Pipeline

Lawrence and Goldsman have gone to significant success since the first film, with Lawrence directing The Hunger Games sequels and Goldsman producing the Titans adaptation for HBO Max. As we have seen multiple times in recent years, it seems there is room for multiple Constantines. I can’t wait to see what Reeves and Co. are conjuring up for the character’s next adventure.

When it comes to gaming, he’s up for anything as long as it involves fighting games, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or Pokémon. He likes pretty much anything, except pineapple on pizza. . . His ultimate goal is to be a novelist.
