Get ready to set sail with the Straw Hat pirates once again. The latest film, One Piece Film: Red, is set to be released in various territories with its domestic debut coming on November 4th. The film is executive produced by the original manga creator Eiichiro Oda, directed by Goro Taniguchi, and written by Tsumoto kuraio. These creatives have experience with the franchise courtesy of a One Piece OVA and One Piece Film: Gold.
One Piece centers on the aforementioned Straw Hat crew led by the gum powered Monkey D Luffy as they sail the Grand Line searching for the lost treasure of pirate King Gol D. Roger. Along the way, our crew encounters friends and foes, from deadly butlers to zany doctors. The movie deals with a famous singer named Uta who has a connection to Luffy’s fan favorite mentor, Shanks.
The One Piece franchise has amassed an incredible following over the last 25 years. With nearly 100 volumes of the manga, it shows no signs of slowing down (though if you ask Oda, the intention is to bring the story to a close in the next few years). With Red set to bring back fan favorite Shanks and expand on his history via Uta, one can only hope that Brooke and Uta will be able to jam out at some point during the film. With One Piece Film: Red on the way to America and the live-action Netflix adaptation recently wrapped, I can’t wait to see where the franchise goes next!
