If you have played Pokémon GO in the past couple days, you may have noticed a small Pokémon following you as well as some golden Pokéstops. That Pokémon is Gimmighoul, and those Pokéstops are newly added to give you more items and some mysterious coins! Today, I will be telling you all we know about Gimmighoul and those golden stops!
Gimmighoul The Coin Chest Pokémon
Say Hello to out new little ghost Pokémon Gimmighoul! It is a pure ghost type that has two different forms, Chest Form and Roaming Form. Gimmighoul was first introduced in Pokémon GO on Sunday after the Dratini Community Day Classic had ended. After the event ended, Pokéstops started turning golden and trainers could spin them for lots of items and the potential at a “?????? Coin” item. Presumably, once trainers all over the world collected 999 coins total, a video and information was released describing Gimmighoul.
Gimmighoul has both a Chest Form and a Roaming Form which trainers will eventually be able to encounter and obtain. The Chest Form is found primarily in Paldea along with the Roaming Form, but Mr. Jacq states that “As far as I know, no one’s ever caught a Gimmighoul that’s not in a chest”. That seems to suggest that the Roaming form is either unobtainable, or very difficult to acquire in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, in Pokémon Go Gimmighoul actually follow the player after they spin the new Golden Pokéstops.
Gimmighoul vs Meltan
Meltan is a similar Pokémon that was released in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is still the only Pokémon that can only be obtained in Pokémon GO. To get Meltan, trainers must transfer Pokémon to either Pokémon Home or either Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. Then a Mystery Box is obtained that allows the trainer to spawn and catch Meltan for 1 hour after it’s opened in Pokémon GO. Originally the box would only spawn them for 30 minutes but that was recently changed to always be one hour. Certain events would also see a chance at the Mystery Box spawning a shiny Meltan.
Seeing a Pokémon being exclusive to Pokémon GO may lead many to think Gimmighoul’s Roaming Form may be exclusive to be a GO as well. I am part of that camp. Seeing as how Pokémon stated that Pokémon GO and Scarlet/Violet would be linking in 2023, I believe there will be some mechanic to either encountering Gimmighoul Roaming Form in GO by transferring Pokémon from Scarlet/Violet to GO or simply by obtaining the “?????? Coin’s” in Pokémon GO. Once caught the Roaming Form Gimmighoul could then be able to be transferred either into Scarlet/Violet or into Pokémon Home to be brought into the Gen IX games. Only time will tell though.
Golden Pokéstop Rewards
Even after the mass of Pokéstops ceased being gold in color, some can still be seen showing up in Pokémon GO. When spun they will give the player close to 5 times the amount of items they would normally get. (At the time of writing this article I am still unsure if you can still get the “?????? Coin” item from the stops now.) This is now just an amazing way for trainers who are running low on Pokéballs or other in game items to stock up.
Pokémon GO and the main Pokémon games have always been intertwined in the past, with the ability to send Pokémon to your Pokémon Home collection and the Let’s Go games, and this is just another way for that integration to be there. I am personally a fan! But what do you think? Let us know somewhere online! Also, I will be streaming Pokémon Scarlet the night it comes out over on my YouTube or Twitch (or both) so come over and hangout during the stream!!
