Tera Raid Battles will be a large part of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet like Max Raid Battles were in Pokémon Sword and Shield. All throughout Paldea you will be able to find larger colored crystals with a similarly Tera Typed Pokémon inside. Some of the crystals may even be black or rainbow for special events. But what are Tera Raid battles, and what are these events?
What Are Tera Raid Battles?
Like Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Tera Raid Battles will be difficult Pokémon battling challenges where you will join a team of four to try and defeat the Tera Pokémon within the crystals found all over Paldea. These Tera Raid Battles will range in difficulty from 1 to 7 stars, with the latter potentially offering Pokémon at level 100 that you can try to beat and catch. The more stars the Tera Raid Battle is, the better Pokémon and rewards you and your team will receive if you beat it. The Tera Crystals seem to be colored with whatever Tera Type the Pokémon inside has, but there are also black and rainbow colored crystals for special events.
Eevee Spotlight For Tera Raid Battles
The first Tera Raid Battle event in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be the Eevee Spotlight running from Thursday, November 24th, to Sunday, November 27, 2022. Eevee will be appearing more frequently in Tera Raid Battles during this event. They will have various Tera Types, which is why they will have the rainbow crystals pictured above. Take on these challenges during the event time period to net yourself one or multiple Eevee with various Tera Types!
Unrivaled Charizard In Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles
Charizard will be appearing in Black Tera Raid Crystals throughout Paldea from December 1-4, 2022, and again from December 15-18, 2022. The Charizard will have the Mightiest Mark, will Dragon as it’s Tera Type and will be at level 100 as seen in images on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet article covering this event. The Charizard you encounter during this event will all have the same mark, ability and move regardless of when it’s caught during the event, and can only be caught ONCE per save file.
You will still be able to participate in Black Crystal Tera Raids on your own save or with a friend even if you have already caught your own Charizard. You have to complete certain postgame events before you are able to take on the Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles. However, you may still join another trainer in a Black Crystal Tera Raid battle they host even if you haven’t completed the postgame events before. Charizard may appear again in other events or be encounter-able in different ways in the future.
Let The Tera Raid Begin
With this info on how Tera Raid battles will function, it seems that The Pokémon company can do some amazing things with the Pokémon they can offer. From having other Pokémon who cannot be obtained naturally in the games like Charizard, to special abilities and moves, to even something like offering the new Past/Future Forms in the opposing versions. The possibilities are endless and I personally can not wait to see how these play out!
