The Dreaming continues. Deadline reports that Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman has been renewed for Season 2. The move comes amid rumors of cancellation as the expensive production continued to perform well across the world. The show stars Tom Sturridge, Jenna Coleman, Gwendolyn Christie, and Kirby Howell Baptiste. The show was developed by the Dark knight trilogy’s David S. Goyer, Wonder Woman’s Allan Heinberg, and Gaiman himself
Sandman centers on Dream of the Endless as he must travel across worlds to fix his realm following his imprisonment. Sandman’s renewal marks a well earned continuation for Gaiman’s iconic work. First released in the late 80s as a reboot of DC’s Golden Age hero The Sandman, Gaiman’s iteration ran for 75 issues and was arguably Gaiman’s breakthrough work. Creatives such as Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and The Dark Knight Rises Joseph Gordon Levitt have tried to bring Sandman to the screen in one way or another. Finally, Heinberg and Goyer were the ones to make it happen, much to the delight of fans worldwide. In the lead-up to the premiere, several fans took to Social Media to let Gaiman know how excited they were and how everyone was carving out time to watch this long-awaited adaptation.

Given the adherence to the source material, there aren’t very many surprises for those well-versed in Gaiman’s lore. However, there’s a lot to love for fans of genre tv. The plot consistently keeps you guessing and goes in a myriad of directions that the viewer doesn’t anticipate. I’m so glad Netflix was able to work the financials out, and I can’t wait to see where things go next. Are you excited Sandman’s coming back or was it not for you?
