A rough road leads to the stars
It’s been a tumultuous journey for The Lords Of The Fallen. The original launched in 2014 and was a smashing success. The game sold close to 1 million copies and made an impression at a time when the Dark Souls games were taking off and seizing the spotlight. A sequel has been attempted to get off the ground for some time now, but has consistently struggled. Original developer Deck 13 went on to publish indie games like Cross Code and developer The Surge and its sequel The Surge 2. The team is working on another game Atlas Fallen for 2023.
PC Gamer reported that the sequel fell to various developers, but the latest one was a studio called Defiant Studios, not to confused with the studio of the same name that made Hand of Fate 2. CI Games was unimpressed and disappointed in the vertical slice of the game, despite multiple calls to improve the quality. With no confidence left, CI Games severed ties with the studio and gave the responsibility to the internally-developed Hex Works Studios.
The Barcelona-based studio was tasked by CI Games to exclusively create action RPGS, with The Lords of The Fallen being their first project. It’s clear the team worked incredibly hard and created a sharp looking action game. It will undoubtedly be challenged as Game of The Year Winner Elden Ring continues to reign of dominance in the current gaming world, but The Lords of The Fallen has gotten this far. It ain’t stopping now.
The Lords of the Fallen arrives 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
