The drive of your life is about to begin. Not much happened at CES 2023 but it did have its surprises. This includes a sneak peak at the upcoming live-action adaptation of the famed racing simulator Gran Turismo. The sneak peek teases exciting races in exotic cars and several well-known actors.
The news comes straight from Consumer Electronics Shows 2023. The 60-second sneak peek teases the cast, which includes David Harbour as Jack Salter and Orlando Bloom as Danny Moore. The story teases a love drama, centered around high-stakes racing and the PlayStation racing simulator of Gran Turismo. The story centers on the true story of Jann Mardennborough, portrayed by Archie Madekwe. Jann used his gaming skills in the game to win various Nissan racing championships to become a professional racecar driver.
Gran Turismo is directed by acclaimed director Neil Blomkamp, director of praised sci-fi epics such as Elysium, Chappie, and academy award nominated District 9. The teaser showcases various exotics cars and racing. Racing will undoubtedly be a central focus of the film. The way cars are filmed is a striking resemblance to seeing them as they appear in the games. The movie will be released in the Summer of 2023, exclusively in theaters.
Future Sony Projects
It’s clear that PlayStation wants to be a film company in addition to a gaming company. Their first attempt at this was 2022’s Uncharted which was a solid Winter success for the studio, grossing over $400 million against a $120 million budget. However, the movie was seen as mediocre and inferior to many other movies of the genre. With solid talent, Gran Turismo will hopefully be both successful and memorable to the filmgoer.
Gran Turismo launches Summer 2023 for theaters. Will you potentially watch this film? What other Sony games would you like to see adopted to the silver screen? Let us know in the comment section.
