Resident Evil 4 Demo Impressions

Resident Evil 4 Demo

When Resident Evil 4 was first announced, many fans were concerned about what direction the remaster would take. Over the last 5 years, Capcom has released Resident Evil Village and remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Although we have loved the remakes, not everyone has. Fans of the original versions claimed that the games’ style had changed drastically. So when the Resident Evil 4 remake was announced, diehard fans of the original became concerned. Thankfully, after playing the Resident Evil 4 demo, most of our concerns have disappeared. So how does the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo hold up to the original, let’s try to survive.

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo

As fans of Resident Evil, we knew we had to play the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw demo when it was announced. Shockingly, Resident Evil 4 is the only main story of Resident Evil that I have not completed. So, the idea of finally being able to play through the story on a modern console is appealing. The Resident Evil 4 demo got rid of any doubts that we were having and made us even more excited for the game’s release on March  24, 2023. But why is that?

First, let’s start off with the game direction. Despite not finishing Resident Evil 4, we did complete some of the early chapters. Some of the more mundane aspects at the beginning have been enhanced to create a more thrilling/horrifying atmosphere. The game’s music sets a mood and between the ambient noises, sound effects, voice acting, and just environmental noises, it can put the player on edge; the music especially in the village will make you feel like it’s a live or die situation.

Second, the game’s controls and gameplay. Moving in the Resident Evil 4 demo feels much smoother than the original. Aiming does seem a bit harder but that could be due to weapon sway or just our reflexes being on edge. Breaking through the doors and windows, felt like they could have a lasting impact, especially when trying to hide.

Finally, the game’s death animations are more polished and realistic. Leon can get cut in half or have his head cut off. The death animation does not feel generic and feels like it is tied to each situation. The game’s graphics do feel a bit older compared to some modern titles but they still look great.

Final Say

When the bell finally rang, our heart stopped pounding. The continuous fight to survive feeling went away as the villagers went into the tomb, to play bingo. The game does a great job of creating a fight-to-survive atmosphere between the visuals, special effects, music, and gameplay. Honestly, we can’t wait to get out hands on it in the near future. The demo is just a teaser of what is to come and leaves you salivating for more.

Resident Evil 4 release on February 24th, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
