Are you a fan of Dating sims? What about horror games? Well if you answered no to both of these, then you should probably not check out any of DreadXP’s amazing games. Earlier this week we shared with you our PAX East 2023 preview of My Friendly Neighborhood, a scary blend of Resident Evil 4 and children’s puppets. If you answered yes, then you should check out their game Sucker for Love: First Date. Oh, you already have? Well, then you are in luck because a sequel for Sucker for Love titled Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is coming out soon.
At PAX East 2023, we had the opportunity to meet with Akabaka to preview their upcoming game Sucker for Love: Date to Die For. If you haven’t already checked out the first game, we highly recommend it. Sucker for Love: A Date to Die For showcases some of the features that were in the previous game. These features have been improved and feel more responsive. Reading text from the book didn’t kill you if you accidentally paused or stopped reading. Interactions with objects were more responsive so it was easier to complete rituals.
Changes
Unlike the first game, Sucker for Love: Date to Die For will have players exploring a variety of areas in order to complete the rituals and the story. For the demo, we were tasked with moving through the house in order to gather ingredients. Unlike the previous game, the player will be able to move through a variety of levels in order to explore. According to the developer, as the rituals are completed and the story moves on, the deity’s followers will try to kill the player. Players will have to move around cautiously in order to avoid danger. Unlike the previous title, the main character’s world does not revolve around sex or lust.
The writing gives early indications of this but it is not until completing a ritual that you discover the truth behind the character’s immunity. Rather than focusing on multiple deity’s, the game will supposedly revolve around just one. This makes the player pay more attention to the one rather than choosing best girl.
Sadly, the demo was too short so we didn’t get to explore all that the world has to offer. However, we are excited about the game’s upcoming release and looking forward to playing it more. Sucker for Love: A Date to Die For is expected to release in 2023. Make sure to wishlist on Steam so you are notified when it releases.
