All Systems Go. Everspace 2 has had an incredibly successful launch. Following its time in Early Access and at PAX EAST 2023, the game has been met with incredibly positive praise across the board. As a successor to the 2017 rogue-like smash-hit, Everspace 2 enters a universe where the fate of all rests with one seemingly immortal clone.
The trailer highlights the accolades and gameplay featured in Everspace 2. Everspace 2 is the follow-up to 2017’s Everspace, a space-based rogue-like with a solid story and incredible gameplay. The game was unique for its time but for the past five years, the team at Rockfish has been working hard to improve upon its predecessor with a new gameplay type and more woven story. The trailer celebrates the milestone of a successful launch, with quotes from various publications.
Brighter than the Sun
The glowing reviews bring news of immediate future plans, including the release on new consoles and an expansion for 2024. “This has been a fantastic launch for Rockfish games, our biggest yet! The team’s done an amazing job, and we’re now reaping the fruits of our hard work of the past five years and beyond. We hit our commercial goals in terms of product visibility, game downloads, and net revenue,” says ROCKFISH Games CEO Michael Schade.
“Even more rewarding is seeing our amazing community and space fans in the media love what we’ve built. This paints a bright future for our studio and Everspace as a franchise. We have so much more planned, and I can’t wait for us to share what we’ve been working on for our first free update later this year and the massive expansion coming in the second half of 2024.
The Future is in the Stars
The launch of Everspace 2 has been seen as a monumental success, bringing more numbers and viewers to the parties involved. Rockfish Games has seen a mammoth jump in wishlist and demo downloads on Steam and that word of mouth is growing.
“It’s clear that we have the attention of space game fans, and they’ll be watching for coming updates and sales. Our demo was a big part of our path to success from announcement to launch. Since the demo was added to Steam, we’ve had 350,000 downloads with an astoundingly high 70% activation rate from space fans around the world interested in trying EVERSPACE 2 for themselves,” says Schade.
“We plan to keep the demo available for the foreseeable future to let pilots get hands-on and check out the first space sector as long as they like to make an educated purchase decision.” “We’ve seen hundreds of content creators streaming and making videos on Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms over the last week,” continues Schade. “Iconic creators with a deep love for space, shooter, and roleplaying games like CohhCarnage, Skill Up, and ObsidianAnt to name a few have all given incredibly enthusiastic thumbs up in multiple streams and videos.”
A new story
Everspace 2 follows the protagonist from the first game, Adam. As a clone, he wishes to find his place in the universe, but forces beyond his control wish to put a stop to that. Assembling a diverse team, Adam sets off into the known universe to find his place and earn some loot along the way. Players engage in combat, mine for resources, and take on contracts, all to gather sweet loot over a 30+ hour campaign. With a sharp presentation, strong gameplay, and a plethora of ships to choose from, it’s hard not to be drawn to Everspace 2.
There was a time in the video game world when spaceship games used to be a dime a dozen. Now, they are few and far between. Games like Rebel Galaxy, Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw, Wartech Fighters, and Subdivision Infinity DX are only a few other examples currently available. Seeing Everspace 2’s success is heartwarming and hopeful as there is plenty to explore in the genre. With an imminent release on newer consoles, it’s safe to say Everspace 2 is off to an amazing start and bright future.
Everspace 2 is now available for Steam and Xbox Gamepass PC with a “playable” rating on Steam Deck. Everspace 2 will launch this year for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
