PlayStation Showcase May 2023

in recent years, May has become an important month for Sony. Choosing to skip the industry standard event of E3 and Summer Game Fest, Sony has decided to showcase their games before anyone else. Typically, Sony’s exclusive games will still show at Summer Game Fest, but the overall excitement from the initial announcement surpasses anything else. This year, Sony had a ton of new games to show off and they were not holding any punches. Games from first-party developers to some fan favorites were revealed. So what games were shown during the May 2023 PlayStation showcase? Let’s dive into everything shown off down below.

Fairgame$

The May 2023 PlayStation showcase started off by showing a new game from a new PlayStation Studio; this new game is called Fairgame$ and is being developed by Haven for the PlayStation 5 and PC. Crews will break into research facilities to steal tech. Be careful though, other crews will get in your way. Be aware that everything is fair game.

Helldivers 2

After a brief introduction from Sony, a trailer for another Sony title called Helldivers 2 was showcased. At the moment, Arrowhead Game Studios’ game is scheduled to release in 2023 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Take on the alien invasion and exterminate the invaders before they can ruin other planets. Get enough resources to help Super Earth. The game looks to be a co-op adventure exploring different terrains.

Immortals Of Aveum (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

Up next was Immortals Of Aveum, a game that will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The game showcases characters who use magic to fight rather than bullets. The Ascendant Studios game is scheduled to be released on July 20th, 2023. From the trailer, it looks like players will have to fight an enemy faction and mythological creatures.

Ghostrunner 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

After the success of the first Ghostrunner, Ghostruner 2 makes its debut showing off a wide array of combat and exploration. The game is scheduled to be released in 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The trailer primarily showcases the visual aspects of the world but hints that there is something more lurking underneath.

Phantom Blade Zero (PS5)

Phantom Blade Zero is a PlayStation-exclusive title that seems to be a blend of Ghost of Tsushima, Seikero, and Ghostwire Tokyo. In a world where everyone hides behind a mask, the player must fight to survive against a treacherous world; It focuses primarily on sword-based combat from a third-person perspective. The world shows that those quick with the sword can be the ultimate warrior.

Sword Of The Sea (PS5)

Sword Of The Sea is an upcoming game created by the visionary artist behind Abzu, The Pathless, and Journey. Giant Squid’s game will have players exploring new worlds and surfing along the sand. The game is currently slated for release on the PS5. 

The Talos Principle 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

The Talos Principle is back and releasing sometime in 2023. Think about how the world can change if working towards a common goal. How much could we achieve if we worked together? The Talos Principle 2 is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2023.

Neva (PS5)

Neva an inkblot-style game is scheduled to be released in 2024 by Devolver Digital exclusively on PlayStation 5. A young woman accompanied by a giant wolf takes on the shadows in intense combat. After their fight, the girl realizes that her companion has been slain, but a smaller wolf comforts her.

Cat Quest: Pirates Of The Purribean (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC)

Set out to be the best Cat Pirate around and take on as many foes as you can while adventuring around the high seas. Cat Quest: Pirates Of The Purribean is scheduled to be released in 2024  This Cat Quest will introduce new dungeons and biomes. Players can expect both a solo and co-op experience.

Foamstars (PS4 and PS5)

Foamstars is a Square Enix title set to release on both PlayStation 4 and 5. The game seems to be Square Enix’s take on Splatoon, where bubbles and foam take center stage/ The colorful showcase battle screams that colors will fly; in a way, the trailer’s music makes it feel like this could be a sport within the Final Fantasy universe.

The Plucky Squire (PS5)

The Plucky Squire is an action-adventure game, where the story’s protagonist moves between 2D and 3D interchangeably. Jot is the heroic protagonist who effortlessly transitions between the pages and the world around the book. Exploration and adventure don’t have to be a singular art style. All Possible Futures The Plucky Squire has no official release date but is set to release sometime in 2023.

Teardown (PS5)

With brick-style artwork, Teardown looks to have players destroy the world around them using a variety of vehicles they can build and adjust. Once in the targeted location, destroy anything that gets in your way. Teardown feels like it is GTA with Lego Bricks. The game is currently in development by Tuxedo Labs and will be published by Saber Interactive on PlayStation 5 soon.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC)

If you are a fan of Metal Gear Solid, then you are in luck. During the showcase, a trailer for the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was revealed. The Trailer primarily focused on how it is kill or be killed within nature. Players only get a brief glimpse of Solid Snake. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The master collection which includes Metal Gear Solid 1 through 3, is set to be released in Fall of 2023.

Towers Of Aghasba (PS5 and PC)

Dream Lit Games’ Towers Of Aghasba is scheduled to be released in 2024 on PlayStation and PC. Rebuild the city that was lost and make it your own. Soar off trees, explore the depths, and discover the beauty of the world around you all while gathering supplies.

Final Fantasy 16 (PS5)

Up next was the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 16. Final Fantasy 16 is scheduled to be released on June 22nd, 2023 for PlayStation 5. The game is set in Valisthea during a time of war and transition. The Dominants hold the city hostage making its inhabitants suffer. Explore different kingdoms and engage with their warriors’ unique summons.

This Final Fantasy seems to have bigger fights similar to Kingdom Hearts 3 rather than the typical RPG elements the Final Fantasy series is known for.

Alan Wake 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

After years of waiting, Alan Wake 2 is finally coming. Alan Wake 2 is scheduled to be released on October 17th, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The sequel revolves around a series of murders endangering the town of Bright Falls, with a new character, FBI agent Anderson, leading the investigation. Each step forward brings the agent one step closer.

Alan Wake returns as the narrator and sets up a true horror story. Wake has forgotten something important and things are out of the ordinary.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to be released on October 12th, 2023, for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The game is set in Baghdad during the late ninth century and features Basim who was first introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The game takes place twenty years before Eivor’s story and shows how Basim became a master assassin.

Revenant Hill (PS4 and PS5)

Revenant Hill, the upcoming game by the creators (Finji) of Night In The Woods, is coming to PlayStation 5. The story follows a 1920s cat named Twigs, as it tries to survive the evolving world.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink (PS4, PS5 and PC)

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is currently scheduled to be released in the winter of 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Set in the Zegagranda Skydom, the game introduces a world of islands protected by primal monsters. From the trailer, Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be an action-packed role-playing experience with vibrant worlds and diverse terrains.

Street Fighter 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

One of the biggest fighting franchises is back on Friday, June 2, 2023; Street Fighter 6 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The new trailer showcases more of the story mode aspects and growing your character into a Legend.

Ultros (PS4 and PS5)

Ultros is set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2024. It’s a side-scrolling, Metroidvania-style, game with hand-to-hand combat.

Throughout the trailer, the protagonist is shown navigating colorful and changing environments, including caves and tunnels. How will one’s actions change their path?

Tower Of Fantasy (PS4 and PS5)

Perfect World Games has revealed that Tower of Fantasy will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 this summer. The game will offer an alternative experience to those who enjoy Genshin Impact or have grown tired of it

This anime-inspired action game features online-focused gameplay with a shared world. Team up with friends and engage in cooperative battles against a variety of foes.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC within the near future.

Building upon the mechanics of the first game, you can expect to wield swords, bows, and magic while utilizing a wide range of abilities to defeat challenging monsters. The sequel maintains its role-playing elements.  As the Arisen, embark on a journey in an immersive world full of mythological creatures and dark beings.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 got a trailer saying late 2023

PlayStation VR2

A trailer showing off Resident Evil 4 on the PlayStation VR2 showcased the realism and high detail that the teal has brought to the VR experience. Prepare to jump from the chainsaw in an all-new way.

Arizona Sunshine 2 takes zombie slaying to a new level. Confessing to a zombie priest, you realize the fun you can have in an apocalypse.

Cross Fire: Sierra Squad brings tactical combat to the VR as you have to take down enemy forces.

Synapse has players step into the role of a cleaner who is hunting a rogue agent. Enter your target’s mind through new technology. Reset when you die but fight off his defenses as you enter his subconscious. The game releases on July 4th.

Marathon (PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

Marathon is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Marathon is Bungies next game and showcases a futuristic environment where life forms are grown, raised, and trained.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC)

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is expected to launch in early 2024. The game will most likely release in February based on the pattern set by previous expansions such as The Witch Queen.

The new teaser teases the return of Cayde 6 in the storyline. And indicates he does not know how he got there. Additional information will be released on August 8th, 2023.

Concord (PS5 and PC)

Concord, is an upcoming PvP multiplayer first-person shooter set in a science-fiction universe. The game is scheduled to be released in 2024 on PlayStation 5 and PC. As you see what is a rough entry the music cuts out illuding to something more.

PlayStation Reveals Project Q

Honestly, this device is a monstrosity and the fact that the PS5 has to remain on is wretched. They killed the Vita for this trash.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

The final game show during the PlayStation showcase was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2; the game is scheduled to release in the Fall of 2023 exclusively on PlayStation 5.

The gameplay reveal showed off exciting new additions, including a new wingsuit for Miles and the black symbiote suit for Peter. The story will rotate between Miles and Peter. The supervillain Kraven The Hunter is heading to Queens to find new prey to hunt. Take down Kraven’s goons and protect your city.
