Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Shows of more Gameplay

Death is eternal. Marines live forever. During the annual Warhammer Skulls Festival, Focus Interactive and Saber Interactive unveiled more gameplay footage for the highly-anticipated sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Blood and limbs scatter across the battlefield in this gory but satisfyingly further look into the world of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

War is Everywhere

Captain Titus of the Ultramarines returns to slay the heretics. The roughly 6-second trailer gives more glimpses into the new threat the Captain faces following the events of the first game. In the captain’s surroundings are utter devastation. The planet he is on appears to be in the midst of a Tyrranid invasion. In the lore of Warhammer 40,000, the Tyrranids are akin to the xenomorphs from the Aliens franchiseThey plunder entire worlds with their bio weaponry, infecting its citizens and even mutating them into aliens known as the Gene stealers. The gene stealer is notorious for their impeccably sharp claws that tear away at the most blessed armor. The trailer shows breathtaking vistas of the battlefield as war unfolds.

The trailer shows melee and shooting combat but with a sharp graphical fidelity. For those familiar with the original game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 combined shooting and melee combat to bring about a total war experience on the battlefield. Where the first game had mindless orks yelling about the land, and are far more dangerous. The trailer shows Captain Titus using both his hands and a chain sword to rip apart enemies in a brutal fashion. Other scenes show the captain using a heavy bolter to cut down on enemies from a distance. At one point, the captain uses a machine gun bolter to cut down the enemy waves. It’s a hell-on-earth experience where nowhere is safe. Captain Titus will be tested as he fights this new threat.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was originally launched in 2011 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game was an unexpected hit both culturally and critically. While some remarked that it borrows a little too much from Gears of War, the game was nonetheless an incredible experience for players. The production qualities were high and the gameplay was tight. The game did end on somewhat of a cliffhanger. Now, that cliffhanger will be answered after 12 years of waiting. What awaits Captain Titus and his Marines is anyone’s guess but the Emperor calls for defense, and everyone must sacrifice.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Steam in 2023.
