James Gunn has found his Superman and Lois. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been chosen for the coveted roles in Superman Legacy. The film will be produced by Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn will write and direct the latest iteration of the Man of Steel.
Corenswet and Brosnahan were among several contenders for the roles, with Tom Brittney, Bridgerton Star Phoebe Dynevor, Emma Mackey, and X-men Star Nicolas Hoult(who had previously been up for Bruce Wayne in the Batman) While Corenswet and Mackey had been paired up during the screen test, the studio was reportedly blown away by Brosnahan’s audition for Lois Lane. In Corenswet, they have an up-and-coming actor who has slowly been making his way in Hollywood over the last few years with roles in Pearl, The Politician, Netflix’s miniseries Hollywood and the upcoming Twisters sequel Twisters. His performance in Hollywood definitely gives you a solid idea of what he could bring to The Last Son of Krypton.
Brosnahan is coming off a fantastic run on Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In addition, she’s been a standout in various other projects, particularly her time on the now-controversial House of Cards. It’s great to see her level up in this way. While it’s a little surprising to see this news come out before Comic-Con, with the Flash flopping and possible actors strike around the corner, I suppose waiting for Comic-Con next month was a non-starter. Ever since Christopher Reeve donned the iconic cape in the 1970s, a Superman and Lois casting choice-and, really, superhero castings in general, have been huge news in the entertainment world, dominating the news sphere for weeks thereafter. All too often, the choice is met with derision or skepticism, However, both Corenswet and Brosnahan are great choices. Corenswet gives off a great midwestern vibe and Brosnahan could pull off Lois Lane in her sleep. I can’t wait to see these two in action when Superman Legacy flies to theaters on July 11, 2025!
Are you happy with Corenswet and Brosnahan or did you prefer someone else? Does this news give you hope after The Flash?
