The Big Apple is bustling again. Play NYC is returning again to New York City, featuring a host of developers both big and small, all presenting new and ambitious games from the New York area. The two-day event is returning to the Metropolitan Pavilion for a two-day event.
Gaming In the Big Apple
Play NYC is hosted by Playcrafting, a New York City-based organization dedicated to empowering the community to go into games. The organization makes games and helps aspiring developers find their mark. Playcrating has made an appearance at PAX EAST in the past, showcasing a variety of games from the NYC and tri-state area to give as much spotlight on up-and-coming games as possible. Play NYC is an opportunity to be seen.
Play NYC returns for its 8th year when it arrives again on August 5th and 6th. Following a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the convention returned in 2021 and 2022. This year, the event returns as a two-day event. Taking feedback from previous years, PLAY NYC 2023 will be featuring over 100 developers, including a tabletop area. An on-site industry Mixer will be present for developers of all backgrounds to interact. This year, as it takes place over two days, Playcrafting is expecting 3000 attendees to attend the event.
A New York State of Mind
Since attending the past two years, PLAY NYC certainly has many interesting games. Everything from Rushdown Revolt to Solar Ash This is an excellent way for gaming enthusiasts, developers, and those with a passing interest in games to get to know others on a quieter and more personal level. Having gone the last two times, each event is a surprise. What is best are the people that inhabit the space and their passion for games. It’s a different vibe from going to a big event like PAX as everyone here feels humbled and local. Subsequently, it’s a good time, especially for those that may feel intimidated by giant conventions. What is shown here is anyone’s guess but it is sure to be a good weekend. I encourage anyone in the area to attend.
