Are you a fan of board games? What about games based on popular anime franchises? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you will most likely enjoy the game we have to share with you. Over the last five years, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba has taken the world by storm with its beautiful artwork, emotional story, and tragic characters. Now Demon Slayer looks to expand its video game presence with a new Mario Party clone called Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! Below, we will be covering our thoughts on the game and why we feel it is a Mario Party clone.
First, let’s start off with Sega and Aniplex’s description of Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board!
In Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board!, players will explore a dynamic world designed like a board game. Each board features memorable locations from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime, including Mount Fujikasane and Asakusa. As the time-of-day changes from day and night, the spaces of each board changes, bringing new events and opportunities for players to discover as they plan their next move.
Choose from a cast of fan-favorite characters including Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, and 9 Hashiras before engaging in fun, exciting multiplayer action for up to 4 players, either locally or online. Nezuko Kamado will also join in on the fun as a support character. Take on a variety of thrilling mini-games, meet familiar characters, work together to defeat dangerous demons lurking in the night, and aim to become the most powerful demon slayer among the rest!
Impressions
Now that we got the developer and publisher description out of the way, let’s go over why it seems like a Mario Party (MP) clone. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Mario Party and the idea of a Demon Slayer game along the lines of Mario Party sounds like it would be fun. Below we will be including the images that will help you reference what we are discussing. In the first image, the way the board is laid out looks similar to the traditional MP map; players will be able to take different paths in order to get to a certain area. The second image clearly shows the four player characters at a starting position waiting to roll the dice in order to move.
In the third photo, you can see all four players guessing which box Nezuko is in. This is most likely one of the mini-games that will be available for players to play. In the final image, the Hand Demon Appears; this could be the equivalent of the Mario Party star system where if enough points are available, players can summon a demon to slay and get renown. At the moment, the game still does not have much information available but it looks like it will be a fun game to play at parties or with friends.
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! is scheduled to be released for Nintendo Switch in 2024. With it coming to the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has most likely approved of the game’s mechanics and similarity to their popular franchise.
