Warner Bros, the famous studio based in Burbank, California, has recently confirmed the release date of the much-awaited sequel of the popular movie “Beetlejuice”. The studio has also revealed the new title of the sequel, which is “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”. Fans of the original movie will be thrilled to know that the release date of the sequel has been set for September 6th. It seems like Warner Bros is all set to bring back the iconic character of Beetlejuice and take the audience on another spooky, delightful ride.
In this upcoming movie, Michael Keaton is set to reprise his titular role alongside Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara who will play Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively. Jenna Ortega, star of “Wednesday”, will join the cast as Astrid Deets. The movie will be directed by Tim Burton and the script will be written by Alfred Gough and Miles Miller, who are the showrunners of “Smallville” and “Wednesday”, with a story by Seth Grahame Smith, author of “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter”. According to Deadline, Warner Bros had considered moving the film but ultimately decided against it. This decision is not surprising since Tim Burton had previously expressed disappointment for having only a day and a half left to shoot when production shut down due to the actors’ strike.
The journey to the Beetlejuice sequel has been a long one with development dating back to the late 90s when the studio was developing Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian a prospect filmmakers like Kevin Smith scoffed at: “Didn’t we say all we needed to say with the first Beatlejuice.” However, Keaton and Burton disagreed with the star always speaking enthusiastically about a return as long as the script was right. It wasn’t until Burton’s work on Netflix’s Wednesday that the project finally started to come together. Given their experience in not only television experience but also big-budget fare like Spider-Man 2 that made them the ideal choice to help shepherd the kooky character back to the big screen.
Having grown up with the animated series as a kid, I’ve been excited to see this character’s legacy continue. Here’s hoping it’s better than Keaton’s last reprisal of a legacy character. What do you think of the new title? Are you looking forward to Beatlejuice’s return to the big screen?
