It’s been a long time coming for the Helldivers. Nine years after their first outing, the Helldivers are back in Helldivers II. As the beginning of a new war draws near, the team at PlayStation and Arrowhead have released one last launch trailer to hype players up before its launch on February 8th, 2024. Almost ten years since the release of its predecessor, Arrowhead Studios is set to set the skies ablaze once more in this highly ambitious sequel.
Liberty Calls
The launch trailer features everything we’ve come to learn of Helldivers II. Earth is Super Earth. The governments and militaries of the world have united to become one unified species, dedicated to establishing a future of managed democracy. Liberty must be spread, and it comes thundering down from hundreds of miles in space. The Helldivers II launch trailer shows the Helldivers getting to work, all to the tune of a cover of “Let’s Work Together” by Canned Heat. The trailer shows all the workings ambitious players expect in this newest iteration of the hit indie co-op shooter. Players will be entrenched in a world ripped right from Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers in which players fight hordes of enemies in the name of liberty. Bugs, cyborgs, aliens, the Helldivers see it all. Players fight gargantuan bosses and establish installations to conquer planets and systems. It’s a combined galactic effort in which every player across PlayStation and PC has a decided impact on the overall war effort. With a bevy of new weapons and vehicles, as well as being in the third person, Helldivers II is shaping to be the first big indie blockbuster of the year that paves the way for the generation.
Helldivers reenlistment
I remember playing the original Helldivers on my PlayStation Vita back in college. Having such a gripping and engaging twin-stick shooter with cross-save ability was astounding for its time. I could fight a few missions on my Vita, then continue the overall ar on my PS4. The original soaked hours upon hours, and demonstrated a penchant for white-knuckle gameplay. It was challenging and unpredictable. The best way to survive was to have a good squad with you. Even then, a skilled squad didn’t necessarily mean victory. Overall, it was the true space marine experience. A weaving of the wild danger of Starship Troopers and James Cameron’s Aliens all woven into one. This new iteration is extraordinarily exciting, introducing new ideas and possibilities. It’s been a while since I’ve personally picked up my gear, dropped down from orbit, and fought the enemies of liberty. With this trailer, I hear the calling and am reenlisting into the Helldivers.
Helldivers II launches on February 8th, 2024. Helldivers II will have cross-save abilities with PC players as well.
