Machine kind has only just begun. Shanghai-based WHIRLLAXY LIMITED has announced a release date for its highly ambitious cyberpunk twin-stick shooter Metal Mind. This action roguelike sees players fighting for the liberation of machinekind through a dystopian sci-fi world where humans seek to round up and retire all robots.

The news comes from WHIRLLAXY LIMITED and will be published by 2P Games. Metal Mind has players fight as an awakened, sentient robot, who sees themselves as the last hope for robotkind. With the malevolent AWC Corporation bearing down on all robots and removing them from society, it’s up to players to fight for robotkind. As a robot with advanced intelligence, every run is a way to grow stronger in mind, body, and weapons. First runs will start small with traditional weaponry, but over time, players can equip 130mm naval artillery and quad rocket launchers. Players can customize their robot in any way they like. A hulking tank or a swift bipedal mech. The choice is up to the player.

There is a large combination of weapons and items to choose from, which the developers feel will be a big attraction for their game. “Metal Mind merges randomization and customization together into a distinct roguelike mecha experience,” said Joash Zhou, Founder of WHIRLLAXY LIMITED. “Mecha lovers across the Nintendo Switch and Epic Games Store platforms will find a lot to love in our game!” Players fight across four zones. From big boss battles to mechanical baddies, there is a challenge to be had. The pixelated visuals and synth-wave soundtrack are sure to get players going in their pursuit of robotic liberation.

A familiar adventure

Metal Mind seems to find itself similar to Neurovoider, released in 2017 by Flying Oak Games. The game puts players into one of the very last humans fighting against a planet under the complete control of robots. Neurovoider is billed as a twin-stick shooter roguelike with RPG elements. Players went through a gauntlet, fighting hordes of machines and mechanical beasts. Metal Mind seems to be similar in gameplay type and scope but it’s visual presentation and highlights on customization seem to separate itself. Personally, this is another game I look forward to playing and checking out.

Metal Mind launches March 7th on the Epic Games Store and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
